Is it really July already?!

Apparently these once a month posts seem to be the only way to go...  another month has gone by, and it seemed like forever since I've been on here last.  And I can't believe it's almost July August... time is just flying by! Anyhow, here's a re-cap of this past month:

June 17th - 20th
Since the 2010 ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) was holding their NCCC (National Concrete Canoe Competition) at Cal Poly SLO for the first year ever... we decided to make it a weekend trip.  (As most of you know, Will was a concrete canoe captain his last year at Cal Poly.  Since then, we have been able to keep in touch with his co-captains, Kevin and Matt, as well as one of his advisers, Dr. Hall.)  Our weekend basically consisted of going to all of the events for the concrete canoe competition (presentations, races and awards banquet) and lots of eating!  We also managed to slip in there Farmer's Market on Thursday night and watching the Laker's win their 11th championship at Firestone's.  We couldn't have asked for a better crowd of people to watch the game with (almost all of them were Laker's fans)!!!  After all was said and done, Cal Poly SLO took home the first place award for the first time ever.  They did awesome, and as an alum, we couldn't be happier!!!  Congrats again to the 2010 concrete canoe captains...  way to go!  And till we meet again SLO... I'm sure you will have changed so much again.  (Shame on you for bringing in a Chipotle and the biggest Forever 21 store I have ever seen!)  Here are pictures from our weekend...

June 22nd
After about a year's worth of planning... we finally met up with Jason and Carol for dinner!  We met halfway in Dublin and had a wonderful dinner at Mimi's Cafe.  It was great to see you both and we look forward to our next dinner... we better get planning!  :)  Thanks again for dinner, too!  We really appreciate it!

June 23rd
We want to extend our biggest congratulations to JT and Jen for the wonderful addition of another baby girl to their family, Addyson Jade Kearns!  Will and I weren't able to make it to the hospital, however, we did visit them later on at their house!  Congrats again!

June 25th
Attended another A's game vs. Pittsburgh with a friend of mine, Sharon, and her boyfriend, Jack.  It's such a small world because her boyfriend is also a Cal Poly alum and he's a good friend of Matt's (one of Will's co-concrete canoe captain).  Jack is also a huge A's fan... as is Will.  Sharon was born and raised in Buffalo, so she wanted to see a game vs. Pittsburg.  We had a lot of fun - and great seats, too!  Thanks again for coming out to the game with us.  Let's get together for dinner soon!  Maybe you guys can venture out into the East Bay... heehee

June 27th
In the afternoon we met up with the Tse's and friends for some fruit picking out in Brentwood.  This place is wonderful, but meeting at 3pm wasn't such a great idea.  It was over 100 degrees out there... and we were all sweaty and hot!  It was tons of fun picking nectarines and peaches (we later learned we weren't supposed to be in those areas).  We ended up buying a half flat of strawberries at the fruit stand, too.  They were SOOOO good!  Nothing beats freshly picked fruits!  It was great to see Roy, Natalie and Anabella again, too!  We can't believe how big she is getting!

Afterwards, we ended up driving out to Suisun to meet Addyson Jade.  Of course, she was sound asleep when we were there... but we (or I should say Will because she loves guys) had tons of fun playing with Avery Ella (their first daughter).  We watched some episodes of Barney and hung out with the Kearn's family.  It's always a pleasure seeing all of them... and of course, the pressure is always on when we are there to have kids.  2047, right?!

July 1st - 5th
Another weekend trip to OC... I hadn't seen my Dad since he returned back home from San Diego.  Will and I ended up flying down there on Thursday evening and stayed through Monday morning.  My Mom and I shopped a ton (at her store of course) and we managed to squeeze in two movies with her, too.  We went to see "Grown Ups" and "Toy Story 3".  Both of them were excellent.  I can't wait to buy both of them! 

Will and I also met up with The Tarbell's on Saturday morning for breakfast at Mimi's before they went to their 4th of July parade.  It always nice seeing their son, Caleb, who shares his birthday with our wedding anniversary.  He's so smart, handsome and well dressed (see the picture of his Lacoste tennis shoes below)!  You can already tell how much of an Engineer he has in him... I can't believe it!  After that, we ventured to the Brea Mall together to kill some time.  Karissa was so good and just bought a new pair of flip flops.  I, on the other hand, managed to get sucked into The Limited 40% off everything sale... and ended up getting 5 new pairs of slacks.  *tsk tsk*  Thanks again for meeting up with us and for breakfast!  It's always a pleasure seeing you guys... I wish we lived closer :(

July 10th
My first tailgate, ever!  Can you believe that?  We met up with Jaime and Vera (soon-to-be parents of twins) and two of their friends, Heidi and Tom for some BBQ and drinks.  They were great company and we couldn't have asked for any better food!  Thanks again for bringing the veggies, pork loin and grill, Jaime and Vera.   And for the hummus, chips and sausages, Heidi and Tom.  What a great game we were all able to watch, too!  The A's ended up crushing the Angel's 15-1!!!!!!!  Way to go!!!!!!  We even managed to see a grand slam!  And what a better way to end the night with a win by watching fireworks!  The Oakland Coliseum always puts on such a wonderful show!  :)

House Yardwork
On most Saturday mornings you can find Will and I pulling weeds and tearing out ivy from our backyard.  I think at one point the weeds got to a height of 8 feet.  Eventually, we would like to pull out all of the ivy on our inclined portion of the yard, put in an entirely new sprinkler system, place sod, have a vegetable/herb garden and plant our lemon tree.  It's hard work, but once you see the difference, it is very rewarding.  Keep in mind that we have 2 large garden waste bins and 5 additional trash cans that we bought at Home Depot.  Every weekend, we somehow manage to fill ALL of these trash cans up.  I never thought we could produce so much garden waste!  Check out our before-and-after pics below:

Well that's about all for now... I have to get baking now for Vera's baby shower on Sunday.  And tonight we are celebrating Jon's birthday at their new place.  I'll probably post pictures of that next month!  ;)  Hope you are all doing well!
